Our Story
Each of us has a story that is worth hearing…Glenstone Chapel is no different.
A Vision:
- As early as 2000, God gave the people of Church at Charlotte the vision of sending a team of Jesus-followers to the growing community of western Union County, NC. Their dream was that this committed team might model and share the love of Jesus with the people who were moving daily into the area – many of whom had never heard of a God who loved them and gave His most valuable treasure to rescue them. That dream went unrealized for many years.
A Leader:
- In November of 2005, God stirred the leadership of Church at Charlotte and the heart of Scott Utesch (after seven years as Community Life Pastor at Church at Charlotte) to courageously begin the new mission to Union County, NC. Scott had moved to Charlotte from New York State as a teenager in the late 1970’s. He experienced the transformation of a relationship with Christ at the age of 15, and often found himself working through his teenage angst by peddling his road bike among the rolling hills of Union County…now the site of Glenstone Chapel.
A Beginning:
- Through the generosity and vision of that sending church, Glenstone Chapel was born in February of 2006. Teams of courageous people began meeting, praying, and investing in the lives of others. They sacrificed their money, time, comforts, and conveniences in order to see a new mission of God. On September 16, 2006, the community of Glenstone Chapel held its first public service at Sandy Ridge Elementary School. With that gathering, another unique manifestation of God’s people living out the Father’s passion for rescuing His children became a reality.
Chapter Two:
- As God added more men, women, and families to the growing community of Glenstone Chapel, more space was needed to accommodate the pubic gatherings. In an answer to prayer, God provided the opportunity to meet in the beautiful auditorium at the newly built Marvin Ridge High School.
- On April 20, 2008. Glenstone Chapel moved its public services to Marvin Ridge High, the home of the Mavericks. That morning, pastor Scott Utesch shared that on that very site, back in 2004 , when it was only a farmer’s field, he had walked around praying for God’s guidance about starting a new church in Union County. Over four year later, God had answered that prayer and had transformed a farmer’s field into a public gathering space for a His children to worship and share His love.
